Frequently asked questions.

How do I schedule an appointment with an artist?

Use our booking link to sign up for a complementary over-the-phone consult. During your consult, your artist, or their assistant will talk with you about all of your ideas, help get you a personalized quote, and get you scheduled for your tattoo appointment!

At the time of scheduling, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit.

Is my deposit refundable/transferable between clients/artists?

  • All deposits are non-refundable. If you would like to move your appointment to a different date, the deposit will be moved with your appointment, as long as the reschedule does not occur within 48 hours of your appointment time.

  • If you reschedule your appointment within 48 hours of your scheduled tattoo time, your deposit will be forfeited, and you will be asked to submit a new deposit.

    • If you reschedule your appointment on the day of the appointment more than twice, we will require a 50% deposit for any future appointments.

  • If you choose to cancel your appointment at any time, the deposit will be forfeited.

  • Deposits are not transferable between artists, or between clients. If you decide to switch artists, you will have to put down a new deposit with your new artist.

What are the artists’ rates?

Each artist’s prices are unique. A quote is given during an over the phone consultation for each individual piece.

When it comes to tattoos, you get what you pay for. Each tattoo price varies and we charge by the piece, not by the hour. There are many shops/artists out there that will be willing to work with whatever your budget may be. Please NEVER haggle over the price of a tattoo, it is disrespectful to the artist.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We are currently only accepting cash payments at the shop. Artists can accept tips in cash directly, or through their personal Venmo accounts.

Should I tip my tattoo artist?

Tipping is never expected. It is a nice gesture though, and we always greatly appreciate it!

How long will my tattoo take?

This is a complicated question and varies per artist. Factors contributing to how long a tattoo takes include the size, the level of detail, the line weight, and the placement on the body.

What is the touch up policy?

Touch ups can be accomidated for a $50 set up fee.

To avoid this fee you can ask your artist to touch up your previous piece when you come in for your next tattoo with us. (please note: this only applies as long as it is with the same previous artist.)

I’m from out of town, and I want to make a last-minute appointment, do you take walk-ins, or same day appointments?

All of our artists operate by appointment only. Sometimes we can accommodate same day appointment request, but we do recommend planning in advance, and booking ahead. Our artists typically book months in advance, but some guests artists may have available time here and there.

When will I see sketches and the finalized drawing?

One week prior your appointment is your deadline to send all relevant design information/references to your artist. All designs are shown the day of the appointment to avoid miscommunication through the phone, and to protect our artists’ hard work, and intellectual property.

What if I don't like the drawing? Can I change it?

Of course! It's going on your body forever - we want you to love it.

One drawing (sketch/mock-up) is included in your appointment. Altering the size of the design is always free.

Minor changes can be accommodated free of charge at the artists’ discretion. If the change requires more than half of the design to be re-drawn after inking, or excessive revisions during the sketching/mock-up process, it may incur an additional drawing fee.

(This is why it's important to thoroughly consider your design before beginning the design process with your artist!)

What kind of ink do you use? Is it vegan?

All ink used in our shop is considered vegan.

Is your tattoo set up Eco friendly?

Studio Lumos has made every effort, to find, and integrate medical grade biodegradable, eco friendly supplies into our process!

Can you tattoo over scars?

Yes! Scars are able to be tattooed over successfully, and we are happy to do these cover-ups. Each scar has its own healing process that makes them unique in thickness and composition. Because of this, scar coverups are significantly more likely to require a touch-up, than tattoos on non-scarred skin.

If I am under 18, can I get a tattoo with parental consent?

No, it is illegal in Oregon.

Can I be Breastfeeding/ Pregnant and get a tattoo ?

No.

Can I bring my child to my appointment?

No.

Can my friend/family member come with me for support?

Any additional guests will have to be approved beforehand, and will have to wait in our lobby during your procedure. Please let us know in advance if you would like to bring someone, and we will do our best to accommodate your guest, if possible. We have a small lobby, and on busy days, we may not have enough extra space.

How should I care for my new tattoo?

You will be provided with a full set of written instructions for aftercare, and topical recommendations at the end of your tattoo appointment.

Can my friends and I get a group tattoo together?

We will do our best to accommodate your group tattoo request. If you are planing a group tattoo with a friend, or loved one, each of you will need to setup a separate phone consult with us.

Can I use a numbing gel/cream before, or during my tattoo procedure?

We do not endorse the use of numbing gels for many reasons, and we ask that you do not apply any prior to your procedure. Numbing agents can tighten the epidermis, and negatively affect the skin’s ability to accept ink. Another unexpected side effect of numbing agents is that when the numbness wears off, your body will suddenly become aware of the pain from hours of tattooing all at once, leading to an overwhelmingly painful experience.

What is your No-Show policy?

If you do not show up for your appointment, and do not call us ahead of time to let us know, your deposit will be forfeited. If you would like to book with us again, all future appointments will require a deposit of 50% of the total projected value of the tattoo.

What is your Hand Tattoo Policy?

  1. We will not tattoo your hands, neck, or face, unless you already have a substantial number of other visible tattoos.

  2. Because you use your hands all day, every day, and are regularly washing them, and bumping them into things, we do not guarantee the longevity of any hand tattoos. This also holds true for foot tattoos, as they are rubbed against by socks/shoes regularly. Sometimes hand and foot tattoos will only last for 1-2 weeks, before they need to be touched up, or completely redone. As such, we do not offer refunds for hand or foot tattoos when the ink falls out, or fades.

  3. Because of the often short-lived nature of hand, and foot tattoos, we do not offer discounted touchups for these pieces. When you need a touchup on a hand, or foot tattoo, you will be charged the full price of a new tattoo, each time.
